Ronaldo was poor for Manchester United

Manchester United stuttered their way to another victory last night in the Europa League against Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia.

A last-gasp winner by midfielder Scott McTominay spared their blushes, however with the number of chances Erik ten Hag’s men had during the tie, it should have been wrapped up long before stoppage time.

Will Manchester United defeat Newcastle United?

Yes

No

No

The win increases their chances of finishing top of Group E and having to face a Champions League dropout in a knockout tie.

There were some solid performances throughout the team, however, a figure who has been at the centre of much controversy this season didn’t exactly set Old Trafford alight…

Cristiano Ronaldo was poor against Omonia

The 37-year-old started for the Red Devils for the Premier League side for the fourth European match in a row so far this season, and with his two previous continental games producing a goal and an assist, much was expected ahead of last night’s tie.

A SofaScore rating of 6.8 saw him ranked lowest out of the Man United starting XI, while he didn’t have any goal contributions, the forward had a total of seven shots during the match, two on target and three missing the target and two were blocked.

His lack of composure could have let the side down if it weren’t for the last-minute goal, and Ronaldo also missed a further big chance, while having just 31 touches during his time on the pitch.

Defensively, he won just one duel all match, while losing possession four times, and it’s starting to feel like his influence is waning at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has recovered from a slow start at the club to improve domestically, but despite three wins from four in the Europa League, there has yet to be a spell-binding performance put on show.

So forget about Marcus Rashford and his inconsistencies in the final third, Ronaldo is surely coming to the end of his United career and if this match was played last season, he might have had two or three goals to show for his efforts.

Newcastle United are the next visitors to Manchester and with the form they are in, the Dutchman will be looking for a much-improved performance if he expects another three points.
