Leeds: Arteta drops Jesus injury update

Leeds United have been handed a potentially huge boost ahead of their Premier League meeting against Arsenal on Sunday.

What’s the talk?

In recent comments cited by Arsenal.com, Mikel Arteta revealed that, despite initial reports suggesting that Gabriel Jesus had been left out from the Gunners’ squad against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening as a precaution, the centre-forward nevertheless remains a doubt for the current Premier League leader’s trip to Elland Road this weekend.

When asked whether the 25-year-old would be available for selection against Leeds, the Spaniard said: “I don’t know, obviously he has some discomfort after the game against Liverpool. That’s why we decided not to bring him in [to Norway], so let’s see how he is [on Friday] and Saturday.”

Huge boost

Considering just how impressive Jesus has been since his £45m move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, it would undoubtedly come as a huge boost to Jesse Marsch and Leeds’ chances of picking up a positive result against the Gunners if the Brazilian is unavailable for his team’s trip to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, over his nine Premier League appearances so far this season, the £105m-rated talent has been in sensational form. Jesus has scored five goals, registered three assists and created three big chances for his team-mates, in addition to taking 3.3 shots (1.7 of which have hit the target), making 1.6 key passes and completing 2.4 dribbles per game.

These returns have seen the £265k-per-week forward average a quite astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.31, not only ranking him as Arteta’s third-best performer in the league but also as the 24th-best player in the top flight as a whole.

As such, with Jesus evidently being one of the most dangerous strikers in the Premier League at present, it is clear to see that the 25-year-old’s potential absence against Leeds is great news for Marsch and his side.

The Brazil international’s absence would undoubtedly provide the Whites’ chances of securing a point, or perhaps even all three, against the Gunners with a huge boost.
