Darvin Ham on Austin Reaves: “He’s been one of our best playmakers”

Austin Reaves had the game of the season so far as he scored 21 points in 27 minutes of play in blowout win against the Spurs (123-92).

The sophomore received more opportunities to score and make plays with LeBron James being out for the last three games. Head coach Darvin Ham praised the 24-year-old shooting guard after the San Antonio game.

“Just getting to it, just being more efficient,” Ham said about Reaves. “Not waisting dribbles, not wasting time on the clock by just holding the ball, once he puts it on the floor, he’s driving downhill more, he’s open on the kick out, he’s catching and shooting not thinking twice, he’s scrappy defensively.

“He and Lonnie [Walker IV], man, it’s great having those guys with their physical ability and their competitiveness and what they’re doing on both sides of the ball have been used.

“But Austin has just been way more efficient in terms of not wasting any time, wasting any dribbles, just getting to it, getting to it next second side action, third side action. He’s been one of our best playmakers. And he just loves to hoop. You can see his passion shine through whenever he’s out there.”

This season Reaves is averaging 9.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2 assists in 27.6 minutes per game for Los Angeles.
