Arsenal: Jesus update emerges vs Leeds

Premier League leaders Arsenal have been handed a big boost ahead of their trip to Leeds United this afternoon…

What’s the latest?

According to GOAL journalist Charles Watts, leading striker Gabriel Jesus is “expected to be OK” to feature in the clash after he was rested in midweek as the Gunners’ continued their fine form in Norway, defeating Bodo/Glimt.

The Brazil international was afforded some rest after taking a knock during last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool but as now revealed, he should be in the squad to face the Whites at Elland Road.

Arsenal fans, prediction for the Leeds clash?

Gunners win!

Whites win!

Whites win!

Huge boost for Arteta

This will be a massive boost to both manager Mikel Arteta, the rest of the playing squad and the Gooner faithful as Jesus has emerged as a standout figure in Arsenal’s impressive run of form.

The Spaniard and his side could extend their lead at the top of the table and make it seven wins from seven with a victory against an out-of-form Leeds, who haven’t won since August.

Since his £45m move from defending champions Manchester City in the summer, the 25-year-old forward has provided five goals and four assists in the top-flight, meaning he has averaged a direct goal contribution every 87.1 minutes – effectively, once every game, via Transfermarkt.

He also leads the squad for average WhoScored rating (7.73), shots per game (3.3) and dribbles per game (2.4), so it’s easy to see why Arsenal’s fortunes have improved drastically since his arrival.

Arteta praised the in-form talisman for lifting the squad’s standards after the win over Leicester. He told reporters (via the Independent):

“That’s the standard, that’s the mentality you want. To go to a different level, you need that mentality.

“I wouldn’t like to play against him. I’ve never been a defender but I can imagine that they don’t enjoy it. He’s so mobile, so intuitive and he’s always sharp and proactive to play in any moment at any phase of the game, and he’s a real threat.”

Evidently, Jesus is a major part of Arteta’s squad and without him, his frontline could falter, which is why his availability will serve as a huge boost heading into kick-off this afternoon.

He’ll surely be buzzing by this news.
